  1. The main character his name is Khaled Hosseini he was born in Pakistani so far the primary focus of this novel is just learning about him and his life and all the stuff he has experienced and i would say he is handling his life pretty good he has a supporting father that is doing everything he can to raise him and his father i trying to figure out what kind of person his son is he knows now that his son doesn't like soccer. My initial thoughts on this book so far are it's not my favorite book but I'm slowly starting to like it I'm not sure if ill like it a lot but I'm not minding it.

    1. My character, Malala, was also born in Pakistan and my book is also slow but like your character mine cares about education as your character cares deeply about his child. Malala's book is also about her life experiences and how going through that makes an impact on so many other people.

  2. I am currently reading the book A long way Gone By Ishmael Beah the thing that had attracted me to this novel was how child soldiers and civil wars still happen in the world and being able to hear the testimony of one of those child soldiers. the first 2 chapters had me confused as the first chapter introduced Ishmael and his brother junior but chapter 2 was a prologue after he had been rescued and what I've read so far ishmael is a very outgoing individual with some of the western culture influence how he has dressed and what genre of music he listens to.

  4. I am reading I Am Malala, and the first thing that attracted me to it was hearing how women get treated in other countries and their beliefs on women's roles. The primary focus in my book is Malala wanting to get an education in a country where they belief women don't need an education, so far it sounds like Malala has been a powerful women since birth, she was named after a school and was celebrate at birth which is opposite of what many do when a girl is born in Pakistan. After the first few chapters its just talking about the beauty of Swat, Pakistan and how beautiful it is compared to the rest of the country. Its been kind of a slow start but I'm still intrigued to image what life would be like living in Pakistan.

    1. some of the similarities I see in I am Malala and A long way Gone are how they both take place in a warzone where there is a group in charge that claims their ideology is the correct way and trying to take control and seeing the story of malala and ishmael is how they both now advocate for peace in their nations

    2. while reading this I also thought its started off kind of slow but gave really meaningful background about Malala's name and what it mean which was helpful to paint a picture of their family unit.

    3. I agree that's why I was attracted to A long Way gone. Right now it jumps right into the story and is very graphic. It also tells about Ishmael and his brother and his friends how there escaping the rebels.

  5. The start of A Thousand Splendid Suns is slow and a bit confusing at first, but it still caught my attention because the story is focusing on just the girl and her mom living alone together. Their relationship feels lonely which makes their situation feel sad and serious. I don’t agree with the mom not wanting her daughter to go to school because it seems unfair and limits her chances to learn and have a better future. The mom’s negative view of the world makes everything feel heavy and hopeless, especially for the girl. Even though the beginning doesn’t have much action, it helps to see the characters and how they are struggling . It made me curious to keep reading and see if the girl’s life changes as the story goes on.

    1. I'm reading I Am Malala and it is also about wanting to get a education. I agree with you that it seems unfair and limits her chances because in Malala, she grows up in a country where women's main roles are to have kids and cook which I think is completely wrong and women deserve access to education and should not have a label put on them of what they are supposed to do.

    2. I am also reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and I agree about the mother. I think she is taking her experiences out on her daughter. Like the things she went through is how she sees the world and because of that she won't let her daughter do anything. They have an interesting relationship. I believe she should have let her daughter go to school as well.

  6. I got the book I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, I had this book as my second option because it interested me to hear her whole story in detail because all of middle school we've learn a little about her. The primary focus of this story is to fight for equality and your dreams even if you have barriers in your way. Malala wanted to go to school so she fought for girls to go to school in result she was shot in the head. The first chapter is pretty slow, just talks about the day she was bored and her parents choosing her name.

    1. I picked this book as my third choice but I can see why it caught your attention since we only learned a little about her in middle school. Her story about fighting for education and equality is really powerful especially knowing what she went through just to go to school. The first chapter is a bit slow but it helps set up her life before everything changed.

    3. This book was also not my first choice, but I was still interested in reading it because of what I heard in middle school. I thought it would be interesting to read more about what happened and the events that lead to Malala getting shot in the head.

  7. I am reading A Long Way Gone, and the main characters name is Ishmael Beah as the story started off slow, he described how everything was going on in their country and around him which there was a civil war in their country he was on the side with the government, and they are trying to defend it. After the first chapter it really starts to jump in telling what problems they have how they can't find food or water and Ishmael is handling the situation by stealing and finding food wherever they can find it while traveling town to town on foot. My initial thoughts on the book are good I love how it already has me hooked and I want to keep reading it while Ishmael tries to survive with this going on in his life.

  11. Te novel Night by Elie Wiesel attracted me because it is based on real events and shows what people experienced during the Holocaust. The main focus of the book is how the Jewish people, especially Elie and his family, are slowly stripped of their rights and freedom by the Nazis, and Elie tries to stay strong while relying on his father and his faith. It starts quite slow

The primary focus right now in my book is Ishmael his brother and his friends are running from there town to get away from the rebels. There running so they don't get killed or captured, but as there running there's people dying all around them and the sight of all this makes them sick. 13. The novel Night by Elie Wiesel caught my attention because its been a recommended book by many different people and its based off of one of the most life changing events in history. From what I have read so far, the primary focus has been about how the Jews values, their religion, and traditions. Elie respects the Jewish religion and traditions and he strives to be the best he can at it. The first chapter of the book is slow, it mainly talks about the Jewish religion and customs, but once you get past that part, it begins to pick up pace.

  15. I am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and what caught my eye with this book was the ways women had to live in this book. I was really intrigued to read about these woman's experiences and how they navigated it. One of the main characters Mariam is now experiencing what is it like to be a women, they're only good to cook, clean, and reproduce. At first it was hard for her and it still is, she has to figure out how to be a wife while dealing with her miscarriages. 17. I chose Night by Elie Wiesel because it is a true story and feels more real and emotional than a made up novel. Knowing the author actually lived through these events made me want to read it and understand his experience. The main focus of the book is the Holocaust and how it affects people emotionally and physically. The story follows Eliezer and his father as they try to survive the camps by staying together and supporting each other. 21. What got me into A Long Way Gone is that it’s a true story, which makes it feel real and serious. The book focuses on how war takes over Ishmael’s life and forces him to grow up fast. He starts as a normal kid, but once the fighting begins, he’s just trying to survive. The story jumps in pretty quickly. It starts calm, then suddenly becomes intense. My first impression is that it’s heavy but interesting, and it makes you want to keep reading to see what happens to Ishmael.

The primary focus of this novel is the holocaust and what Elie Wiesel saw and went through. Right now in the book, the jews are being transferred to concentration camps and I think they are handling it as well as they can because they don't know what to expect, and there's nothing they can do to change where they are going. After reading the first chapter of this book, I think the jews were very ignorant about the violence and seriousness about the situation. I also think my book kind of jumped right into the people getting taken away and got interesting very quick.

  29. what got me interested in night was the history side of things i enjoy reading about wars and hearing the side of the people affected by the actions of Hitler. the primary focus of my book is about the experience of going to ashawhits as a jew. all the characters are distrat currently because the germans just showed up and moved them into a grotto and are taking them to the main camp all within 2 weeks. first chapter was a crazy homeless guy telling people what was coming and no one believed him until the Germans showed up and started doing everything he said so it was a pretty quick intro first impression would be pretty good

    2. i partially agree with your statement because i feel as if the book actually had a quick good start but i agree that the book is very interesting so far.

  35. The main focus of A Thousand Splendid Suns and the start of the book is extremely confusing. I was lost at who person is and what role they play. I didn't know who nana was at first then realized she was Miriam's mom. We find out in the first few chapters how Miriam grew up and how her and her mom lived. They live outside of the city in a Kobal that Miriam's father had built them when they were kicked out. After they moved he would come once a week to visit them. This made Miriam believe that her father was a good person when in reality he isn't.

    1. I completely agree at first it was hard to understand who was who and what was happening but as it goes on you start to figure it out and also realize her father isn't as good as he is pictured to be.

    2. i agree also i had a hard time figuring out Miriam's dad was a boy let alone her father i feel like the book could be explained way better so far or written differently.

  37. I am reading the book a long way gone by ishmael beah. What first attracted me to this book is the war aspect of it because I love war movies like American Sniper, Hacksaw Ridge, and All Quiet on the Western Front. Although these movies are all with adults fighting in the war, I was really drawn in by the thought of someone even younger than me fighting in a war. So far the book is pretty good and it's kind of just talking about the start of the war but I think as I read more into it I will begin to like it more

  38. The book I’m reading is Night by Elie Wiesel. It takes place during World War II in Sighet, Transylvania, at the beginning of the Holocaust. At first, the main characters are living ordinary lives, but everything shifts once the Nazis occupy their town. Their home is turned into part of a ghetto, their family businesses are shut down, and they are forced to wear yellow stars to mark them as Jewish. My initial impression is that the story begins gradually, then intensifies dramatically once they are forced to relocate.

  39. What attracted me to A Thousand Splendid Suns was how emotional the beginning is and how quickly it pulls you into Mariam’s life. The main focus of the novel so far is Mariam’s struggle with being an illegitimate child and how society treats her because of it. She tries to handle this by holding onto hope in her relationship with her father, even though it often leads to disappointment. The book jumps right into the story rather than starting slowly, and it immediately feels serious and sad. My first impression is that this will be a powerful but heartbreaking story that shows how unfair life can be

    1. i thought that her being illegitimate child was weird and how her and her mom's relationship seem almost immature and tries to make her see him ask a bad person and that he isn't who she thinks he is.

    2. I also think that this book starts out serious and sad, but I think it makes sense because it definitely perfectly shows how women were treated.

  41. I'm reading the book a long way gone and something that attracted me to this novel i feel is the survival aspect of this book because ive always felt myself bring very entertained by people surviving through things that the normal person couldn't and i find it very inspiring because it makes me feel like if that person can do that like Ishmael surviving the war then I can do anything i put my mind to. And i feel like Ishmael is handling this situation quite well considering he is just a teenager and has already lost so much and still has the strength to keep going and finding safety. And my initial thoughts of this book are that its going to be a very good read because instead of having a slow start i feel like it had me hooked within the first few pages.

  42. A Long Way Gone tells a true story from the perspective of a child living through war. From what I can tell so far the main focus is how violence disrupts Ishmael’s normal life and forces him to run for survival. Ishmael and the other boys cope stay together and hold on to memories of home, family, and music as everything they know disappears. The book jumps right into the conflict which makes the beginning seem unsettling. My first impression is that the novel is very serious and shows how quickly childhood can be taken away by war.

  44. I was attracted to this novel because its the most interesting and shortest book. The primary focus in night is the jews getting put in the camps and took from there houses and family's. main character is trying to think its a dream and staying with her dad. My initial thoughts about the book night is not as interesting as the last book. the book jumps right in to the story about the camps.

  49. What attracted me to the novel A Long Way Gone was how the book just springs right into action and how it gets right to the point. The primary focus as of right now is Ishmael, his brother, and their friends are trying to escape the rebels and they are sticking together to get through this situation. 51. I am reading I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. I put this as my number one book because I was very interested to in the fact that Malala was shot in the head and survived the shooting and fought for girls to be safe and protected in education. I'm not to far into the book but it is talking about how close her family is especially her and her dad, he was the one that brought the family more together after Malala was born and cared for her the most.

  52. Something that made me want to read A Thousand Splendid Suns, was that I wanted to know more about what happens to women in Afghanistan and how they are treated. The primary focus of this book is a woman named Marium who is never able to really go outside anywhere as a child because her mother tells her it is dangerous outside of where they live. She is then forced to marry a man much older than her. She struggles to get past the fact that she is now supposed to live with some random man after her mother had just passed away. My initial thoughts about this book are it gets pretty interesting at some parts and other parts can be very slow.

  53. I got the book Night by Elie Wiesel, and it caught my attention because it’s about the Holocaust, which I don’t mind learning about, especially since it’s told from a Jewish person’s point of view and knowing this is a true story makes it a little more interesting than a regular novel. The book starts off showing Elie’s life before everything gets really bad, and you can already tell something serious is coming even though people don’t believe it yet. It doesn’t have a slow start and kind of jumps right into what’s going on. I’m not super excited about it, but it’s interesting enough that I want to keep reading and see what happens next.
